For your best overall web viewing experience, you'll want to optimize your computer to display the richest content. This is usually very easy to do and involves changing only a couple of settings. Below are instructions for both Macintosh and Windows95 machines.
Macintosh:
- Under the 'Apple Menu' - 'Control Panels', pull down the menu until you see the 'Monitors' or 'Monitors and Sounds' control panel. Once there choose a Color Depth of "thousands" or "millions" if available.
- At this time, you may also want to increase your screen resolution. This will allow you to fit more information on your screen at one time. The images will appear somewhat smaller and sharper. In the same "Monitors" Control Panel(some machines require you to click 'options') choose the highest-numbered Resolution [832x624, 1024x768] that will allow you to maintain a color depth of "thousands".
- You do not need to reboot (restart) your computer, you are ready to view web pages as they were designed!
Windows95:
- Under the 'Start Menu' - 'Settings' - 'Control Panels', choose the 'Display' control panel. Once there click on the farthest right tab on the top of the window, called 'settings'. Then choose aColor palette of High Color(16-bit) or True Color(24-bit) if available.
- At this time, you may also want to increase your screen resolution. This will allow you to fit more information on your screen at one time. The images will appear somewhat smaller and sharper. In the same "Display" Control Panel, choose the highest-numbered Desktop area [800x600, 1024x768] that will allow you to maintain a color depth of "High Color".
- You will need to reboot (restart) your computer, then you are ready to view web pages as they were designed!
You may find that your computer will not allow you to raise these settings. This is a function of your built-in VRAM or the video card in your machine. These can usually be upgraded for a reasonable sum.
